Summer colors are brighter, reflected in nature's sunsets and flowers, in lush green forests and blue lakes and in fresh-picked vegetables and fruits that abound on farms from coast to coast. But unless you're an RVer who has everything - including the kitchen sink - summer vacations can mean lackluster fast-food meals and convenience-store snacks. With onboard refrigerators, stoves, microwaves and plenty of storage, RVers maintain healthy eating habits and save money. Experience a roadside stand to discover local delicacies as well as the locals who are often rich with history. What will you discover? |

From the Road
Here's to Your Health
More than a century ago, Walt Whitman wrote an iconic bit of verse known as "Song of the Open Road." His opening lines were these: Afoot and light-hearted, I take to the open road... Healthy, free, the world before me... OK, sure, he was "afoot." But after all, this was the 19th century. I guarantee that a 21st-century Whitman would be canvassing the country in a house on wheels - poetry in motion. Free, he says? An RV is all about the freedom to explore America rather than merely passing through it and to do so on your own terms. But it's that first word of Whitman's second line that often gets overlooked: Healthy. In an RV, the free leads to the healthy - in many ways.
