Families and RVing...The Drives That Bind

There's something about RV travel that brings today's hurried, schedule-driven families closer together. According to a recent RVIA survey, the activity children enjoy most on an RV vacation is family gatherings around the campfire, whether it's to make s'mores, roast marshmallows or tell stories. And children who take RV trips with their families often continue the tradition as they become parents. In fact, nearly 100% of the kids surveyed say they intend to go RVing with their kids when they grow up. Start your family's life-lasting tradition today...

The Drives That Bind

We rarely play family board games at home anymore. We used to when my kids were a bit younger, but now my sons have discovered electronic wonders - Wii, iPhone diversions, computer games. And we parents find ourselves so busy with our myriad daily tasks that time gets away from us. In fact, I'll admit that occasionally we welcome the chance to let the kids do their own thing so we can steal an hour or two simply to get stuff done. But the road is a different story. During our annual summer cross-country RV excursions, the point is to enjoy the journey together. It is Quality Family Time, in the truest sense of all three words. Sure, that may be the most overused phrase since "at the end of the day…" But you know what? At the end of the day, we're a happy family.

The Road to Happiness
Sometimes the road to a happy family is an actual road. And sometimes, nothing brings a family closer than taking them away. Away from the daily distractions that can get in our way. RVs can offer you and your family one extraordinary getaway after another. RVing is a way for stressed-out, overscheduled families to get in touch and stay in touch with each other. Nothing quite encourages communication and shared activity like an RV getaway.

Hot Dogs in Sleeping Bags
When it's time for the family to gather 'round the evening campfire, there's no better meal than one where no one has to do the dishes! How about serving up some Hot Dogs in Sleeping Bags? Start by having the kids scout for "forked" roasting branches - the kind with a slight "V" at the top - to help steady the heavier hot dogs. Since hot dogs are precooked, everyone can brown their hot dog to their liking, from just goldeny brown and sizzling to dark and crispy so everyone's a happy dog. For dessert, you can roast two marshmallows at a time on the forked hot dog sticks, making dish-free s'mores prep twice as fast... yum, yum! Then sit back, enjoy the fire and, most of all, enjoy each other's company...
