Janine's Story

Antique Chic

Janine Pettit loves everything about camping, especially vintage touches for her vintage trailer. She visits antique stores to accessorize and style her RV in a way that only a true Girl Camper can.

Girl Camper Collectibles Tips from Janine

I love back roads, and my favorite stops are local thrift stores and small-town garage sales:

  • I look for things that are sentimental to me but small and can be repurposed in my trailer.
  • I love old insulated beverage containers. They are a throwback to my childhood and come in so many patterns. I use them to hold coffee, sugar, bouillon cubes, and small pastas. They pack very tightly and look pretty displayed on the counter or as a vase on a picnic table.
  • I also like old plaid wool blankets and raggedy quilts – the more beat-up the better. I place them on my campfire chair for added warmth and put them on my bed.
  • Find things that speak to you, reflect a style you love or accentuate your personality. That’s the most important element of collecting anything – make it about what makes you happiest!
When I look back on childhood, the thing that stands out to me is camping. When I’m in a vintage trailer it just evokes a memory to me of the safety you felt when you were a kid.

Janine Pettit

Janine Pettit is a lifelong lover of camping who took a 25 year sabbatical when she married a “resort” type guy! She discovered that camping was still in the cards for her when she stumbled onto an article about a women’s outdoor adventure group that travels around the country in RVs, meeting new friends, checking off bucket list adventures and doing things she had only dreamed of. Janine has become an Ambassador for the Girl Camping movement and encourages women to go places and do things in her blog and podcast.
