Supplies
- 1 empty classic oats container (per lantern)
- Colored construction paper
- Scissors
- Wax paper
- Pencil
- Googly eyes
- Pipe cleaners
- Markers
- Glue stick
- 1 brad (per lantern)
- Twine
- 1 package (4) flameless candles
How to
- Cut off the bottom of the oatmeal container to create a cylinder that’s open on both ends.
- Using the base of the cylinder for a pattern, draw two circles on construction paper (these will become your lantern’s “face” and “tails”). Cut out the circles.
- Using the side of your cylinder for a pattern, trace one full rotation onto wax paper (this will become your lantern’s sides). Cut out the wax paper.
- Cut three large rectangles out of the sides of your cylinder (this is so the light will shine through). Remember to leave plenty of “support” cardboard in between each rectangle.
- Wrap your full cylinder in wax paper, making sure to leave both ends open. Secure the wax paper with glue.
- Decorate your “face” and “tail” circles with googly eyes, pipe cleaners, and markers to create your animal of choice.
- Attach your “face” circle to the front of your cylinder with glue and your “tail” circle to the back of your cylinder using a brad.
- “Swing” the tail circle to insert your four (lit) flameless candles. Swing it back shut.
- Hang your lantern from your RV using twine.
- Relax and enjoy!
