2023 July 4th Celebrations at Campgrounds

Jeff Crider shares campgrounds across the country with awesome 4th of July celebrations!

Campgrounds across the United States are gearing up for July 4th work with a variety of activities to celebrate our nation’s independence.
        Activities range from campsite decorating contests to scavenger hunts to bicycle and golf cart parades and ice cream socials. Many campgrounds also host their own fireworks displays, while others offer great views of neighboring fireworks shows.

Here’s a sampling of some of the Independence Day weekend activities that are being planned across the country:

Angola / Hogback Lake KOA in Angola, Indiana: This campground celebrates Independence Day June 30-July 4 with live music and its own fireworks display on Saturday, July 1.

Baileyton KOA Holiday in Greenville, Tennessee: This campground celebrates Independence Day June 30-July 4 with crafts, games, a movie night and the park’s own fireworks show. 

Boyer Park & Marina / Snake River KOA Holiday in Colfax, Washington: July 4th activities at this park include live music and a fireworks show.

Buckeye Lake / Columbus East KOA Holiday in Buckeye Lake, Ohio: This campground celebrates Independence Day June 30-July 4 with bicycle and golf cart decorating and a parade, crafts and a DJ. Buckeye Lake’s fireworks can be seen July 3 without leaving the park.

Campland on the Bay in San Diego, California: This campground is just across the bay from Sea World and has a perfect vantage point to enjoy the Sea World’s fireworks every weekend as well as on July 4. Campland also offers organized activities, watercraft rentals, and live music.

Cape Charles / Chesapeake Bay KOA Resort in Cape Charles, Virginia: This campground celebrates Independence Day June 29-July 4 with a golf cart parade, family pickup games, a cornhole tournament, and live entertainment. A fireworks display will light up the sky on Saturday, July 1.

Checotah / Lake Eufaula West KOA Holiday in Checotah, Oklahoma: This campground begins its Independence Day festivities on June 30. Activities include train rides, s’mores, and fireworks.

Chocorua KOA Holiday in Tamworth, New Hampshire: This campground celebrates Independence Day June 30-July 2 with the park’s annual talent show. Guests are encouraged to bring their instruments and dance moves to participate. The park will also have rocket blasts, and an ice cream smorgasbord.

Crossville / I-40 KOA in Crossville, Tennessee: This campground celebrates Independence Day June 30-July 5 with a bike/pet parade, water gun wars, wagon rides and a fireworks and music show.

Gatlinburg East / Smoky Mountain KOA Holiday in Cosby, Tennessee: This campground celebrates Independence Day June 30-July 3 with a campsite decorating contest, a weekend coloring contest, crafts, a patriotic dog costume contest, a watermelon eating contest, a water gun cup race, an ice cream social, music, and Karaoke.

Hagerstown / Antietam Battlefield KOA Holiday in Williamsport, Maryland: This park celebrates Independence Day June 30-July 3 with magic shows, soaker train rides, crafts and ceramics, including sand art, snowballs, movies, and free popcorn.

Harrisonburg / Shenandoa Valley KOA Holiday in Broadway, Virginia: Independence Day activities are scheduled for July 1, including hayrides and an ice cream social. Fireworks will be visible in the evening, weather permitting.

Jellystone Park Camp-Resort in Burleson, Texas: This campground celebrates Independence Day with patriotic crafts, a red, white and blue scavenger hunt, a “Proud to be an American Fashion Show,” a patriotic golf cart and bicycle parade; and a campsite and cabin decorating contest.

Jellystone Park Camp-Resort in Mill Run, Pennsylvania: This campground celebrates Independence Day with bike decorating and a parade, a kids scavenger hunt, a pool party and fireworks in the evening.

Jellystone Park Camp-Resort in Madison, Maine: This campground will celebrate Independence Day June 30-July 3 with its 10th annual “Red, White and Blue Parade” and its second annual “Soak the Staff Parade.” This campground will also have its own fireworks show.

Jellystone Park Camp-Resort in Montello, Iowa: This campground celebrates Independence Day from June 30-July 4 with a kids fishing tournament, a bicycle parade, a golf cart parade, crafts, a DJ and fireworks.

Jellystone Park Camp-Resort in Pierceton, Indiana: This campground will celebrate Independence Day with its annual 4th of July Parade, arts and crafts, a Yogi Swap-A-Rama and Craft Show, live music, and fireworks.

Jellystone Park Camp-Resort in Pittsfield, Illinois: This park celebrates Independence Day June 30-July 3 with crafts, tournaments, its annual red, white and blue tie-dye, and dance with Yogi Bear and friends. This park will also host its annual fireworks display.

Jellystone Park Camp-Resort in South Haven, Michigan: This campground celebrates Independence Day from June 30-July 6 with crafts and ice cream specials. Fireworks launched off the pier in South Haven can easily be seen from the park.

Jellystone Park Camp-Resort in Uniontown, Ohio: This campground will celebrate Independence Day June 30-July 3 with red, white and blue crafts and a cardboard boat regatta.

Lake Bomoseen KOA Holiday in Bomoseen, Vermont: On July 3 this park will have its annual fireworks show.

Monroe Co. / Toledo North KOA Holiday in Petersburg, Michigan: This campground celebrates Independence Day June 30-July 3 with a parade, a full day of entertainment and fireworks on Saturday, July 1.

Newport Dunes Waterfront Resort & Marina in Newport Beach, California: Newport Dunes is the launch site for the fireworks show provided by the city of Newport Beach. The resort also offers watercraft rentals and live music.

Paducah / I-24 / Kentucky Lake KOA Journey in Calvert City, Kentucky: This campground celebrates Independence Day June 30-July 4 and is just across the street from the Lakeland Event Center, which hosts a “Friends & Freedom Pet Pageant” as well as a fireworks show. Celebrations are also planned around the corner from the campground at Calvert City Memorial Park, which will have a full day of live music, kids’ activities, food trucks, a parade and fireworks on July 4.

Paris Landing / Kentucky Lake HOA Holiday in Buchanan, Tennessee: This campground celebrates Independence Day June 30-July 4 with crafts and rides for the kids, bingo and trivia games, a bicycle parade for kids, a campsite decorating competition, movies, silent disco, and fireworks. 

Pine Acres Family Camping Resort in Oakham, Massachusetts: This campground celebrates Independence Day June 30-July 3 with a golf cart parade, live music, an its own fireworks show on Saturday, July 1.

Richmond KOA Holiday in Richmond, Indiana: This campground celebrates Independence Day June 30-July 4 with games, a lighted bike parade, a hayride and fireworks on Saturday, July 1.

Santa Cruz / Monterey Bay KOA Holiday in Watsonville, California: This campground celebrates Independence Day June 30-July 4 with a bike and scooter parade, face painting, a scavenger hunt, an ice cream social, a palm tree climb, and an outdoor movie.

Sunbury / Columbus North KOA Holiday in Sunbury, Ohio: This campground celebrates Independence Day June 30-July 4 with a fishing tournament, a golf cart parade, and fireworks.

Valdez KOA Journey in Valdez, Alaska: This campground celebrates Independence Day July 1-4 with a campsite decorating contest with all proceeds being donated to Care Camps, which provide care for children suffering from cancer.

Waterloo / Lost Island KOA Resort in Waterloo, Iowa: This park celebrates Independence Day July 1-4 with a scavenger hunt, waterslides, an ice cream social, a movie, and a private fireworks show.
